Why Not

I am a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. I believe in sharing my talents and experiences by giving back to the community by giving my time to coaching, church and especially to the disability community. I truly believe that all men and women are created equally.

Community Supports

As I posted last week, my family and I helped serve dinner at Tippecanoe Presbyterian Church.  In talking with Bev Tryba, from Nativity of The Lord and GIFTS, she said that Mayor Day had been in contact with her on a couple of occasions.  Per Bev they needed to come up with a date to sit down.

This morning, I sent Mayor Day an email asking for an update from him on this issue.  I was answered promptly that he was going to be in contact with Bev this week to try and set up a meeting to come to a solution.  Per Mayor Day, Supervisor Jursik wants to be involved as well, she has some people from County Services to be a part of the talks.

It is good to see that there is follow up on this issue.

Project Concern (http://projectconcerncudahy.org/) is one of the top food, clothing furniture and household goods, supports in the State, in both quality and quantity served.  Per the Project Concern website, they have been at the same location since 1968, that is over 40 years serving the people in need from Cudahy and the surrounding communities.

I have lived across the street from Nativity of the Lord since 1989 and I have seen very few problems.  Other than an ambulance here and there, I can't recall a police car being on sight in memory.

When I first heard of the GIFTS program, I went to the source, Nativity of the Lord,  and asked questions. I did not rely on word of mouth.  Having 3 kids I had my concerns, but after recieving answers to these questions, I was comfortable with GIFTS being a part of Nativity of the Lord once a month for the winter months.  The program was designed for the winter months only.  The hours were going to be from about 6:00PM to 8:00 AM.

I hope that people will give this program a chance.  I wrote a couple of months ago, What Would Cudahy Do (http://www.cudahynow.com/blogs/communityblogs/95436114.html) in regards to my son living on his own.  I think it is time for people to stop the "not in my back yard" mentality  and give new programs and ideas a chance.
