The Way I See It!

I am an Ultra-Conservative, Alpha-Male, True Authentic Leader, Type "C" Personality, who is very active in my community; whether it is donating time, clothes or money for Project Concern or going to Common Council meetings and voicing my opinions. As a blogger, I intend to provide a different viewpoint "The way I see it!" on various world, national and local issues with a few helpful tips & tidbits sprinkled in.

Thoughts on Scott Walker's Budget Fix Bill Part1

Budget, Scott Walker, PUP, Public Sector Unions

Some reflections, observations, and ramblings

Ideology is relevantly dependent on who champions it, who denounces it, and who embraces it.

I have pasted in definitions from throughout this post in blue, just to remind us and keep us on the same page.

I wonder how much propaganda is floating around out there, from both sides but especially from the union leaders.  But like so many other aspects of this fight, perception and reality are wildly different depending on whom you speak with.

Open your Mind, think outside the box.... ask questions... he who questions well, learns well.

If you are too close to a situation, do you see clearly?

It is important to step back and note that there is a forest made up by all of the trees being discussed...

Rumor - a story or statement in general circulation without confirmation or certainty as to facts, gossip, hearsay

I am sure we have all heard the one about “Scott Walker is going to be rolling tanks into Madison” or “this is payback for all the police and firefighter unions supporting him” or “it is 20% of your total paycheck”.

If someone has creditable, hard, evidence that Scott Walker: a) Told the unions he will negotiate with them and then canceled the meetings. b) Told the union leaders and NOT just the legislatures to hold off on signing the contracts just after the 2010 election please bring them forward!  They could be traceable emails, official memos, video, audio, or anything whose validity can be validated and word of mouth will not cut it.

Remember as a child the “Telephone Game” where you would whisper a short sentence into someone's ear, and they would then turn and whisper it to the person seated on their other side and by the time, the message had passed through a dozen people it was so different from the original?

Perhaps he went through the right channels and realized it wasn't working, perhaps he learned a lesson from Milwaukee County dealings, I don’t know.  The facts are not in and am not going to say, “Guilty until proven innocent!”

If someone says they lean right, does that mean they are right or does it mean they stand in the center but arch or bend to the right?

Are they a conservative if even they just say they lean right?

Lean - to incline or bend from a vertical position

I try not to take this personal and fully understand that the people affected by this do take it personal.  I get emails and there are many or told, “Why is Scott Walker doing this to me?  I do my job and go the extra mile!” or “My union isn’t the problem!”

I don’t think Scott Walker is attacking anyone personally, at least not directly.

We have to cut what we cannot afford.  Once you start lifting up the rocks to see what’s under them, things aren’t so rosy.

Out of control government and spending is like a hand grenade with the pin pulled out, it will blowup at some point.

I was asked, “Why do all the public unions have to be dealt together?  Not all of them are bad!”

Well, you know when you get Strep Throat (Streptococcus) the doctor treats it with antibiotics maybe amoxicillin, erythromycin, penicillin, or cephalexin.  Bacteria causes strep throat infection and antibiotics work on bacterial infections.  One of the side effects of antibiotics is it kills the bad bacteria along with the good bacteria.  Simply put, antibiotics are poisons that are used to kill.  Antibiotics at least temporarily disturb the normal balance.

This isn’t throwing out the baby with the bath water either.

Remember expressing a positive doesn’t equal an implied negative or a transient properties.  Much like saying “I like warm sunny summer days” doesn’t mean you hate cool autumn days.

If the public sector union and its leaders would stick to worker issues like safety as opposed to be partisan thugs for the Democrats I would not be so against them.

The second part is, ask yourself this, are the public unions standing together or are they jumping up and down saying we are not like the other public unions!  Have they ever done that, stand apart from each other?

What about the police and fire unions?  Well if Scott Walker included them how much chaos would, we be in?  Would he be putting public safety in jeopardy?

Someone personally affected by this said to me, “I'm capable of disagreeing with anyone on an issue and not having it be personal.”  Now that is very hard to do and in a situation where it affects someone directly, I don’t think it fully can be done.

It is human nature and I would be mad (and have been February 14 1996 Kmart took half the pay away from management (me) after our contracts expired or my wife giving up 25% of her paycheck to keep her job with no 401k matching and a jump to 40% of health benefits, you bet I was mad) if people took money away from me.  Money I use to feed, shelter and clothe my family.

I get it and understand!  I am not saying misery loves company at all or trying to compare/contrast what personally happen to me in the past, I am using it as a tool to help understand and feel for people.

I don’t look at this as sharing the pain, I look at this as the rest of the economy has been contradicting for years and there is always a lag between what happens in the private sector and what happens in the public sector.  The thing is market forces cause things to happen in the private sector and in the public sector, an artificial force has to be applied when the government leaders don’t react to the reality of things.  Cuts and deep cuts have to be made.

The best thing after a heavy storm is the sun shining down, reminding us that that tomorrow is always a better and new day.

This very person did try and make it personal with me (and again I fully understand) by asking me “Would you want someone to tell you that your raise is tied to the CPI?  Would you?”  I didn’t answer them as I wasn’t trying to make it personal.

Would I?

Sure on average when the economy is going good 3% to 4% are averages.  I did post the CPI history for the last 30 years.  3% to 4% in most private sectors are the norm when raises are given and let us forget it is compounded every year and again it isn’t a freeze.

Taxes are not endless.  Remember I gave a speech at Scott Walkers’ 0% budget.

Video here.

Management is about doing things right; Leadership is doing the right things.

Here are some areas of my speech that ring true even today.

“I can't give you all of the answers.  I can only give you my opinions and philosophy.  The facts stand on their own!

Do you not hear the outcry of injustice?

I am sure you do, it is loud and wide, and it is why we are all gathered here today.

Choose what you want to hear and you will miss the truth.

Many times the government elitists forget who they work for.  They work for you and I, the people!

Many of them think that they are the kings and queens and we are their servants.  They just look at us as an endless source of revenue!  Unfortunately, our collective wallet is not.

I live in reality just and all of you do.  There is a mismatch between resources and rhetoric when it comes to taxes.  We need to stop looking AT and FOR false answers and deal with the harsh reality of things!  The harsh facts are we CANNOT afford MORE taxes.

There isn't a pot of gold under the rainbow to save us!

I would like to leave open all of the swimming pools, but the reality is something needs to be cut somewhere.  You don’t have to love the decision, just understand it and live with it.

The idea of reducing expenditures when income lags is something that just about every one of us has had to do at one time or another.

At home, I would love to have prime rib, instead I cook round steak.  It is called being fiscally responsible.  It’s called making the hard choices.

Now is not a time to have the soft squishy marshmallow approach.  It takes a firm and decisive person with the guts to make the necessary cuts.

Why is the solution always spend, spend, spend from the government?

Have they forgotten all about the SIMPLE while looking for the EXOTIC?

There can be no new taxes and there must be spending reductions instead.

One must surrender to the facts.  We cannot continue the economically dangerous trend of spending beyond our means.

We have to do what is right, not what is easy.

The need to spend every penny in a budget, so that an equal or greater amount will be allocated next year has to stop!  To some, budgets are looked at like a gift card about to expire and they act like a kid in the candy store!

Financial decisions CANNOT be driven by pure emotions.  They have to have reason as well.  With the economy of today, we don’t have the extra money for the Cadillac programs of yesterday.  There has to be a return to the basics and a return to reality.

We the people cannot afford any more taxes!

Government must transcend normal politics and rise to the challenges of today.

One can choose the rocky path or the smooth one, but will one choose the right path is the important answer for the journey.

In the end, your results have to do the talking.

So let’s get this 0% Milwaukee County budget passed and give the taxpayers a break before our backs break from the over taxation!”

Conservative - cautiously moderate or purposefully low, having the power or tendency to conserve

"Strictly speaking, conservatism is not a political system, but rather a way of looking at the civil order.[Russell Kirk (1918-1994)]

Questions –

Do conservatives like small or big government?

Do they like less or more taxes?  Remember President Bush (both) were not conservatives and neither was Governor Tommy Thompson after his first term.

What is the purpose of government?

Do you feel that government creates jobs?

I am still very true to my core believes and have proven over and over I am a conservative first, republican second.

I was told that I have changed!  NOPE, still the same!

What about the no-bid sale of power plants?

I think that no-bid is not right, but I don't know all of the reasons and details, I would like more information and not a knee-jerk reaction to it.

I have called out my own party when I thought they were wrong, including Scott Walker.

Conservatives are not changing.  Conservatives are adding a new tool to their belt, their voice in the form of activism and this scares the left because for so long by the very nature of conservatism was we take the backseat and just shut our mouths, turn the other cheek and let the liberals run over us.  Activism was only used by the liberals and now we use some of the same playbooks.  At some time, you have to stand up for what you believe and speak out and that is something the liberals better get used to seeing or hearing!
