Yes, he calls it a Christmas Tree!
A tax on Christmas trees?
Will the government be a Grinch this year and impose a tax on Christmas trees? That's what the conservative Heritage Foundation claimed Wednesday.
A vice president for the think tank asserted that a new "Christmas Tree Promotion Board" established today by the USDA intended to promote the sales of fresh Christmas trees, and strengthen the seasonal industry's position in the marketplace is essentially levying a new tax. The board is composed of 11 producers and one importer of Christmas trees.
At issue, though, is a new, 15-cent charge per Christmas tree sold by producers and importers who produce more than 500 trees annually.
The Heritage Foundation is calling it a tax on Christmas trees, but the government says it's an "industry-funded promotion, research, and information program for fresh cut Christmas trees."
The government's verbiage says the various companies will have to pay 15 cents per tree, but the Heritage foundation assumes this charge will be passed on to consumers.
