Family lured Jerrianne and her husband to South Milwaukee in 2002 from Southern California where she worked as, first, a journalist, then, as a court information officer. She now stays busy with media-relations consulting, playing with her three grandchildren (part of the lure), writing, discovering her new environs, and hoping her garden will produce before the first fall frost.
South Milwaukee's fantastic Celtic band, the Garlic Mustard Pickers, is performing at the Holiday Folk Fair (at State Fair Park) on the weekend of Nov 16-18. You can find them on the Food Court Stage on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 12 noon to 1 p.m.
In recognition of the many people at this event who like to do folk dancing, we'll be mostly be playing traditional dance music.
Looking ahead to December:
The GMP will also perform on Saturday, Dec. 1, at St. Mary's Church in the town of Dover in Racine County (a few miles west of Union Grove. Directions are on the GMP website at http://www.thegarlicmustardpickers.org.
This is a fundraiser for the church (dinner with entertainment--which includes Irish dancing by the Kinsella Academy of Dance in addtion to the GMP--and an auction) all for $35.
Tickets must be purchased in advance. To purchase tickets, call 262-210-6042
The band's last performance of 2012 is on New Year's Eve at the Mitchell Park Domes in Milwaukee. If this is like last year's event, the band will be sharing the stage with a fine magician.
The Domes always runs a great family-friendly New Years Eve.
Admission: Adults are $6.50, kids are $5.
