To Whom It May Concern;

                I guess the direction Cudahy is headed is to become, if not already, the poorest suburb in the County.  In 1994 when I first became actively involved in our City the poverty rate in our schools was 26%, it now stands at 57%.  That is an increase of 120% in the last 18 years.  And at that rate we could reach 100% in the next ten years.

                I have long maintained that the way the schools go so goes the community and if you doubt it take a look at Milwaukee.  We elders will survive but if you think promising young people and families will stay or move into our community, your dreaming!

                Say what you want about the economy, the underlying problem is and always has been, “property maintenance”.  The lack of it has brought us low property values, low rents and poorer people and families.  What happened to our middle class?  The City has been dragging it’s feet for years trying to put together an effective program and has failed.  Many of us property owners are now paying a registration fee, which was intended to support an inspection program, however it seems to be only supporting new jobs at City Hall.

                Here‘s a thought, maybe if the people who work and run our City and Schools, must of whom earn more than the people who live here, actually lived in our community a sense of expedience might prevail!!
