John Manke is an active former Bay View resident who is involved in numerous neighborhood organizations, including the Bay View Historical Society, the Humboldt Park Fourth of July Association and the Shore Shore Farmers Market. He believes Bay View has a fine tradition in its past that we do not want to lose in the future.
It was only recently, when I realized how old that I was getting. My grandchildren are getting older. My wife and I will have been married 48 years in May. As the year go one, I have to replace much of my current clothing. I still have too many books in our home. As much as I like reading and doing historical research, there is no more room for any more books. As much as I still have the knowledge as to which book contains which type of data I need to answer any questions sent to me. It is hard to believe how much time has passed in my life. It goes quickly and you hardly notice it passing. Many of the same things that you have done over the years, are getting more difficult to do. My physical shape is not the best as I am obese and need to lose much weight. My legs can no longer allow me to walk very far. Steps are very difficult to climb. I need more excercise. If only I could regain some of my past strength and be able to continue my activities. Time is just moving too fast.
