Will your electric bill go up?

Friends of the U.S. Chamber

A reliable, affordable electricity supply is critical to our way of life – and our economy. But electricity providers and consumers face an assault from an unprecedented wave of new regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

In early June, President Obama is expected to announce a new set of regulations on carbon emissions from coal power plants – the same plants that are currently providing American families with affordable and reliable electricity. The impact won't just hit the coal industry, these regulations will affect every energy user, and that includes you.

What could these regulations mean to you? We've done the math.

The U.S. Chamber’s Energy Institute commissioned a study to fully understand the impact of the EPA's new regulations on your pocketbook and the nation's economy. The results were stunning, and the numbers don't look good for your family, consumers or businesses across the country.

The Obama administration’s goal is to reduce carbon emissions by 42% by 2030. Our report shows that even with these aggressive standards, the U.S. will fall short of this goal and only reduce global emissions by less than 2%. What’s more, the proposed carbon regulations would lower U.S. GDP by $51 billion annually and lead to 224,000 fewer jobs each year.

The tradeoff is clear. The President’s war on coal will create a significant blow to the economy in exchange for very little environmental benefit.

If you don't want to see a rise in your electricity bill, please share this infographic with your friends and colleagues via Facebook, Twitter and email. Tell President Obama to stop his war on coal and affordable energy.
