Those big, bad, cold, callous, heartless Green Bay Packers

Last year on Friday, August 23, the Franklin Sabers opened their football season with an easy 44-12 walloping of Sussex Hamilton at Franklin High.

The romp included a whopping 576 years of total offense by Franklin.

While the Sabers were having their way the Green Bay Packers were playing an exhibition game on TV. This year the Packers will play a pre-season game on Friday, August 22. Franklin will once again open their season against Sussex Hamilton, this time on the road, and this time on a Thursday night, August 21 in a televised game.

Come August, Franklin fans won’t have to decide whether to drive to Sussex or stay home to watch the Pack. That’s not the case for fans of other schools who have their season openers the same time the Packers will be kicking off against Oakland.

Lake Country Publications Sports Director JR Radcliffe poses what I believe is an interesting question: Does the conflict matter?  Does it cause consternation?

For me the answer is simple.

I’d choose the high school game. Those kids need the support. And the NFL pre-season is meaningless. Those games should be played on Saturdays and Sundays.
