Barland Avenue Maintenance Project

College Avenue To Grange Ave

Friday June 13th, 2014

Starting the week of June 16th the City of Cudahy Public Works Department will begin pavement maintenance work on Barland Avenue from College Avenue to Grange.  This letter serves to provide information relative to the project and to address common questions the public has regarding projects such as this.  If you have further questions or issues about the construction project – please feel free to give the Engineering Department a call at (414) 769-2212.

What work is being done?  Over the next two months the Public Works Department will be removing portions of deteriorated pavement in the driving lanes (not parking lanes) of Barland Avenue and replacing the deteriorated spots with hot mix asphalt.  This work is only a temporary fix until the City is able to fund a future project that will address the causes for the pavement’s on-going failure.  The work will be done in sections beginning with the section from Grange Avenue to Ramsey.  The driving lanes of Barland within the section under maintenance will be shut down to traffic and the parking lanes will be used as travel lanes.  This means that there will be no parking while the driving lanes are closed to traffic.

Will I be able to get to my home?  You will be able to get to and from your home; however you will only be able to make a right turn into and out of your driveway.  In addition you will not be able to park in front of your home.  Temporary No Parking signs will be placed a day before work begins and will remain up until the driving lanes are open to traffic.  If you choose to park on the street and your car is in the way, we will tow it and you will be given the bill to pay.   Please drive slowly and use extreme caution when driving through the work area.

How long will the construction last?  The work is expected to start sometime during the week of June 16th.  It will be done in sections to minimize the inconvenience to the property owners along Barland Ave.  Completion of the entire job is dependent on the weather, but the City is hoping to have the work completed by August 29th.  Also be aware that the Public Work’s Department will typically be working Monday through Thursday with a start time of around 6:30 a.m..  The crew will work Friday only if we get behind on the project.

Your cooperation and understanding will greatly assist us in completing this work in the shortest time possible. We apologize for any inconvenience that this work may cause you. Please remember that construction equipment is extremely dangerous and children must be kept away from the construction area at all times.
