What did Scott Walker do this week? (08/09/14)

What did Scott Walker do this week?

It's our weekly round-up of activities the Governor was involved in that you may or may not have heard about. Bucky joined Governor Walker at the Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction at the WI State Fair. More on that later.

In Marinette, a groundbreaking at Koehne Chevrolet Buick GMC.

“Each time a company breaks ground and expands their operation, there is reason to celebrate.  It means another company found success in Wisconsin and wants to create jobs by investing in our state,” Governor Walker said. “I’m pleased to join the Koehne family to celebrate and recognize their hard work and dedication to Northeastern Wisconsin.”

Another groundbreaking took place in Chippewa Falls.

Governor Walker made a stop at Advanced Laser Machining Inc. (ALM), one of the Midwest’s leading precision metal fabricators, which is expanding its facility in Chippewa Falls, a project expected to create 27 new jobs and retain about 100 existing positions.

“With this expansion, Advanced Laser Machining builds on its already-strong contribution to the state local economy,” Governor Walker said. “The leadership and skilled workers at this facility are an impressive example of benefits of manufacturing and why we recognize this industry as the backbone of our economy.”

The Daily Signal posted this piece: Unions lose and the public wins big in Wisconsin.

An important reminder, one the press doesn’t talk about: Through July 2014, 23,879 net new businesses have been created in WI since Dec. 2010. Governor Walker’s goal was 10,000 by 2015.

That new ad was released this week.

In Wauwatosa, Governor Walker helped announce a new housing development.

Smartphone users now have another way to use technology to connect with and explore Wisconsin’s many state parks, forests trails, and recreation areas by downloading a free Wisconsin State Parks and Forests Pocket Ranger® App.  The app offers visitors an accessible, comprehensive guide to exploring Wisconsin’s state parks and forests at their convenience.

“So many people rely on smartphones for information, and this new technology will help connect them with the great outdoor recreational opportunities at our state parks, forests, and trails,” said Governor Walker.  “This is a great way to support tourism – by making it even easier for people to see all that Wisconsin has to offer.”

The app includes descriptions of each park, forest, and trail, along with what amenities it offers, and maps and directions.  It includes an advanced GPS mapping feature that will locate the closest state properties, and allow users to take GPS tours, record trail distances and time elapsed, and mark photo waypoints.

The all-time record was broken at the Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction at the WI State Fair.

And the EAA AirVenture wrapped up in Oshkosh. Governor Walker thanked  the organizers, participants and attendees for supporting WI Tourism, and received kind words from national aviation organizations.

Thank you, Governor, for all you do for our great state. Look for our blog again next Saturday. Till then, have a terrific WI week!
