The Barking Lot-America's Finest Dog Blog (08/16/14)

The Barking Lot

The Barking Lot is a regular weekly feature of This Just In…Written by my lovely wife, Jennifer and me.  It opens with the weekend dog walking forecast followed by the main blog from dog lover, Jennifer. Then it’s DOGS IN THE NEWS and our close. Enjoy!

THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.

TODAYMostly sunny. Scattered storms later today after 5:00. High of 83. "A"

Mostly cloudy in the morning, sunny in the afternoon. High of 69. "C"

Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog:

There are SO MANY outstanding things about Irish Fest that it’s almost impossible to take them all in.  The authentic (and even SEMI-authentic) cuisine & beverages are incredible.  The music will take your breath away.  This might be your only chance to purchase hand-knit Aran sweaters anywhere in Wisconsin.  Looking for a new Claddagh ring to add to your jewelry collection?  This is your place!

Irish Fest 2013 was more exciting than usual for our family, as it was Kyla’s very first performance with Cashel Dennehy’s Summer Sampler program.  It goes without saying that we were extremely proud.  Because we had such a wonderful experience at Cashel Dennehy we were happy to join another Sampler group this year.  There is no question who will be the most enthusiastic of the young dancers!

For years I’ve enjoyed watching Kevin as he emcees the children’s Red Hair contest and Freckle contest.  Just for fun, we now enter Kyla in the Red Hair contest though clearly she doesn’t stand a chance with her golden locks.  And the only way she’d qualify for a freckle is if I penciled them on with eye liner.  That’s OK, she just loves standing next to Daddy and having a chance to talk in to the microphone.

But in addition to all those great things, Irish Fest is the ONLY Milwaukee ethnic festival to feature nearly 10 Irish breeds of dogs in a special “Celtic Canine” area.  I would pass up a corned beef sandwich from McBob’s before I’d miss a chance to pet the Soft Coated Wheaton Terriers.  Well really, can you blame me?

The Celtic Canine area is such a great opportunity to discover these precious pooches.  You can learn about breed temperament, special grooming requirements, and ask any proud owner of an Irish wolfhound just how much his/her dog weighs.

If you attend Irish Fest this year do not, I repeat DO NOT miss a chance to meet some great Irish dogs.  If you see us there be sure to say “hi.”  Just don’t interrupt me when I’m petting a Wheaton.
