The Way I See It!

I am an Ultra-Conservative, Alpha-Male, True Authentic Leader, Type "C" Personality, who is very active in my community; whether it is donating time, clothes or money for Project Concern or going to Common Council meetings and voicing my opinions. As a blogger, I intend to provide a different viewpoint "The way I see it!" on various world, national and local issues with a few helpful tips & tidbits sprinkled in.

What makes Cudahy a great City to live in...

Cudahy “Generations of Pride”

Cudahy has city and county parks (and easy access to Milwaukee’s) with all sorts of amenities including walking trails, playgrounds, pools, dog parks (Thanks to Mayor McCue) and community centers.  With excellent access to Lake Michigan.

Cudahy is just minutes away from downtown Milwaukee via the Parkway and 794 or 894 for all four major performing arts: ballet, drama, opera and symphony.

Our proximity and easy of drive to Milwaukee by either city streets, or the Interstate (Sorry Rail people) makes this possible.  We are just a hop, skip and jump from live music.  If your idea of "culture" is going to the game - college or pro - then Milwaukee Brewers baseball games, Bucks basketball, racing at the Mile, Admirals hockey, Milwaukee Wave Soccer and two college teams are your ticket.  If you enjoy going to a local theater - and I don’t mean the movieplex - fine opera or ballet performances are minutes away.  Like spending time at the zoo?  Again minutes away.  Want to see a movie at the big screen?  You guessed it minutes away.

While Cudahy works on obtaining a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Cudahy Station, a training facility for the Milwaukee Wave and some supporting specialty shops (the Shops of Cudahy), and the rest of Cudahy has boutiques and other national chains to the funky shops.

Whether you choose condominium living, an apartment community or a brand new home in Cudahy we have it all.

How does this sound so far?  Is this not a place you would like to call home?

Almost by definition, a city can be great only at the expense of other cities that are less than great.  Whatever else it may possess or lack, a great city cannot be dull.  It must have a sense of place and a feeling all its own, and its citizens must be different from and more vital than those who live elsewhere.  All great and not so great cities need the basic retail shopping stores.  Convenience is key to greatness.  So are:  Economic Strength, Interesting Neighborhoods, Unique Cultural Attitude, History (although maybe you could add that into the former), Public Transportation System, and Natural Beauty.

Great cities exhibit these qualities:

They are safe communities, clean and healthy, family oriented, strong social and community values, strong jobs and employment, affordable housing, arts and culture, parks and recreation, a walk able downtown, access to public transport, diversity of political views and options, and strong religious background.  How many of those qualities do you see in Cudahy?

Some places have everything any family could want - economic opportunity, good schools, safe streets, things to do and a sense of community.  I think Cudahy has that.  Are we perfect?  No!  We have much room for improvement.  It would be nice to lower taxes, which Cudahy ranks high in.  Lowering crime is always something a great city must strive for.  Of course, I’d like a safe place, but it’s no more important than things like economic growth potential.

What else does Cudahy offer?

We have a major medical center in Cudahy and access to two Milwaukee hospitals.  We are on the backside of General Mitchell International Airport (MKE).  This is a major airport with direct flights to many cities.  We have public transportation options with buses that travel through Cudahy and Milwaukee.  You can take the number 15 bus right to BayShore mall.  We have a revitalized bowling center for friends and family to enjoy themselves.  We offer a scenic challenging golf course just off Lake Michigan.  We have plenty of places to bike, hike, go sailing, fishing, boating, swimming in both Lake Michigan and public pools.  The big city feel and all of its amenities in a smaller tighter knit community that a nice small town full of good character and good people offers.  Cudahy is a pet-friendly town for you and your dog/cat.  Holistic health services or metaphysical groups are valuable to my well-being.

Cudahy is a community of the hard working class, where your neighbor can be your best friend.  By itself, Cudahy may not be great by everyone’s definitions, but add in the proximity to Milwaukee and we are.  We can use all of the great facilities that Milwaukee has to offer, while still keeping the smaller, tight knit community.
