Eileen M. Rodriguez

My aunt Eileen M. Rodriguez (Nee Sheehan) died at 3:50 pm February 13, 2009 at the age 56 years.

She was a lung cancer survivor and had just recently been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

While in the hospital for a broken hip, she contracted MRSA and soon developed pneumonia.  With her terminal brain cancer, we knew the uphill battle we as a family were facing.

I went to visit her at the Ruth Hospice on Sunday February 8th and held her hand, told her we love her and that it was okay to leave us and go to her husband Peter in heaven.

It was a very sad day that we all knew would come.  The doctor told us with MRSA very little could be done.

I am sad, very sad and angry of the loss of my aunt, who took care of me while my mother worked as I grew up.  But at the same time, I know she is no longer suffering and is in better place.

Some of you may know Eileen because she worked at the Chase Ave K-Mart and then at the Cudahy K-Mart.

To know her was an easy thing.  She was very straightforward and easy to read.  She spoke her mind to let you know how she felt.  She was very loving and kind, at times too much because some people would take advantage of that kindness.

She helped me get my job at K-Mart and from time to time gave me sage advice.  She was a firm believer in telling people the truth and showing respect to others.

She will truly be missed by all that knew her.  I know my family and I surely will!!!

Understanding MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus)

What is MRSA?

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterium that causes infections in different parts of the body. It's tougher to treat than most strains of staphylococcus aureus -- or staph -- because it's resistant to some commonly used antibiotics.

The symptoms of MRSA depend on where you're infected. Most often, it causes mild infections on the skin, causing pimples or boils. But it can also cause more serious skin infections or infect surgical wounds, the bloodstream, the lungs, or the urinary tract.
