You may have noticed after upgrading to IE8 that your links folder in Favorites is missing and it is now replaced with Favorites Bar. Now you cannot just copy the favorite’s folder to backup. You must use the Export feature in IE.
While in IE8 click on File
Then Import and Export
Then Save in directory of your choice
Then click Finish.
The default file name is “bookmark.htm”.
Now you may have noticed the Tabbed browsing is slow.
There are a few fixes for this depending on what your problem exactly is.
Many people report that they have used Spybot Search and Destroy’s Immunize feature. This placed a large list of potentially bad sites in the restricted zone. Normally with IE7 and IE 6 this was a very good thing, but with IE8 it doesn’t work so well. I am not sure if it is because of IE8 Phishing changes or what.
Now it is a good thing to use the list in restricted zone, but if it is making your IE8 crash, then what good is it doing you. So removing the list by resetting the zone has worked for most people.
Another issue is with Skype 4.1. With this one, Skype 4.2 should fix. So just upgrade to it and you are fixed.
For some a simple reregister of a .dll is the fix.
FOR WINDOWS XP
1. Click Start, then click Run.
2. In the Run dialog box, type cmd and press Enter.
3. In the Command Prompt window, enter this text and press Enter:
4. Restart your computer.
FOR WINDOWS VISTA/WINDOWS 7
1. Type cmd in the Start menu Search box.
2. Right-click the Cmd shortcut that appears at the top of the search results list, Under Programs, as shown here.
3. Choose Run As Administrator.
4. In the Command Prompt window, enter this text and press Enter:
5. Restart your computer.
Of those fixes don’t work, try starting IE8 without Add-ons. To do this right click on the IE8 icon and choose Start without Add-ons.
If it works great now, you need to find the offending Add-on.
In IE8, choose Tools.
Then the Programs Tab
Then the Manage Add-Ons
You can look at the list of how long it takes to load the Add-ons and disable Add-ons here.
As with anything, do these at your own risk! And also backup your data, because you never know when something could happen to it!
