Miss St Francis 2008, Elyse Wojciechowski of Oak Creek, received a $2,500 scholarship. Each Miss St. Francis contestant will receive at least a $300 scholarship. The program is rated as one of the state's best, awarding more than $7,700 in cash scholarships for local young women in 2008.
The Miss St. Francis scholarship pageant is seeking contestants for its 45th annual event.
Interested young women may call Steve Hecker at (414) 545-3015, Dave Goltz at (414) 483-8353 or Diane Czeszak at (414) 481-0511 to obtain an application, which are due by Wednesday, Feb. 18.
There will be a contestant orientation meeting Sunday, Feb. 22, at the St. Francis Community Center, 3476 E. Howard Ave., at 1 p.m. Contestants also can reserve their participation by calling Steve, Dave or Diane by Friday, Feb. 20, and bringing their completed application to the orientation meeting. Participation is limited to 12 contestants.
To be eligible, contestants should be between 17 and 24 years of age as of the end of 2008, and have lived for at least one year in St. Francis, Cudahy, South Milwaukee, Oak Creek or the 53207 ZIP code in Milwaukee, or worked full time or been a full-time student in those communities for the past year. There is no entry fee.
The 2009 event will be held Saturday, April 18, at Saint Thomas More High School. As a preliminary to the Miss Wisconsin and Miss America programs, Miss St. Francis pageant participants are judged in the following areas of competition: private interview, talent, evening wear, swimsuit and on-stage interview.
The winner participates in community events, promotes her personal platform throughout the year, and earns the opportunity to compete for additional scholarships and the title of Miss Wisconsin in June.
