The Packers finally earned their first Woodland Conference victory, but took losses in games before and after.

David Trudeau had a couple of big baskets down the stretch as Cudahy (1-10 in the Woodland, 3-11 overall as this week began) shot to an 18-4 lead and held on for a 43-41 victory over visiting Shorewood on Feb. 3.

Eric Miller had a 3-point basket and made five of six free throws during the fourth quarter for the Packers. He finished with 20 points.

"It was like the monkey was off their backs with that first win in the conference," Cudahy coach Chad Donahue said.

On Feb. 2, the Packers suffered a tough 53-51 loss at St. Thomas More. Miller scored 19 points, Ryan Schmidt 11 and Teontae Morgan 10.

Jordan Backes made five 3-point baskets and finished with 17 points to lead St. Thomas More. Michael Wasilik contributed 16 points and Jacob Szczech 10 for the Cavaliers.

The Packers ended their busy week with a 46-30 loss to visiting Greenfield on Feb. 6.

Donahue said his team held Greenfield to one point the first 12 minutes. The Packers scored four points in the first quarter and trailed at halftime, 19-14. Greenfield broke the game open with an 18-2 bulge in the third.

Tyler Abbrederis led Cudahy with nine points.

The Packers will be without Jim Trudeau for the rest of the season. He had an emergency appendectomy last week.

The Packers were to play at Greendale on Feb. 10, and will host St. Francis at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13.

St. Francis

Last week was another rough one for the Mariners, who lost Woodland Conference games to visiting Wauwatosa West and host Greendale.

On Feb. 3, the Mariners rallied from an 11-point deficit to close within 30-26 by halftime, but Wauwatosa West pulled away during the third quarter for a 76-60 victory.

Alde Selenica led St. Francis (2-10 in the Woodland, 2-13 overall at the start of this week) with 20 points. Andy Schmidt added 10.

On Feb. 6, Greendale built on a 28-15 lead after the first quarter and went on to a 74-59 victory.

Selenica scored 16 points, but was the only Mariner in double figures. Alex Merg scored 26 points for the Panthers.

The Mariners were host Whitnall on Feb. 10, and will play at Cudahy at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13.

South Milwaukee

South Milwaukee's week went from bad to worse as the Rockets were handed two lopsided Southeast Conference losses.

The Rockets (2-10 in the SEC and 3-13 overall entering this week) reached double figures in only the third quarter of a 58-38 defeat to visiting Burlington on Feb. 3. The story was familiar – double figures in only the third - but a larger margin of defeat in a 66-34 rout by Racine Horlick on Feb. 6.

Andrew Windler led South Milwaukee against Burlington with nine points. George Olson scored 14 points and Windler 13 against Horlick.

South Milwaukee will host Oak Creek at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, then visit Kenosha Bradford at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16.
