Schedule Set for 60th South Shore Frolic

June 29, 2009

The 2009 South Shore Frolic "60th Anniversary"

What started out in 1948 as a Bay View neighborhood event has grown and perpetuated into a three day, county wide, and sixty year existence. That event, of course, is the South Shore Frolic, for the fourteenth year under the auspices of the Bay View Lions Club.

The dates of the 60th South Shore Frolic are July 10-11-12 with all festivities at South Shore Park in Bay View. For years, the Frolic has been at the center of family reunions, parties, and celebrations - often by generations of South Shore families that use the event to bring family and friends back together.

The frolic features "something for everyone" as this year the entertainment menu includes a fish fry, a great parade, featuring the University of Wisconsin marching band, music all three nights, arts and crafts show, classic car show, a “Saws for a Cause” exhibit, a “movie on the beach” (Hotel for Dogs – rated G), a wide variety of food, free games for kids and, of course, those famous Frolic "Atomic" fireworks.

Dave Reszel, publicity chairman and MC for the Frolic said "we're a working class person's festival where a family can enjoy the lake view, music, fun, food, games, classic cars, crafts, and fireworks, - in a laid back atmosphere." "For thousands of southern Milwaukee County residents, it wouldn't be summer without the South Shore Frolic."

"The support from throughout the south shore area and from our corporate sponsors - plus the dedication of the Bay View Lions Club membership enables us to put "Bay View" and the "Frolic" on the map and remain part of Milwaukee's summer calendar each year," noted Reszel. This year's event will again attract 60-70,000 people.
